The combination of online + open access + freely available information

The recent NIH mandate for researchers to publish NIH funded research in the public domain is a blessing in disguise. This strategic step will enhance accessibility, dynamicity, transparency and reproducibility of research and will strengthen the open access movement. Research communication will potentially become richer through a wider outreach and increased participation. Additionally it will open up doors to the use of methods like text mining, retrospective analysis that can reuse data to answer important research questions.
