Firefox plugins/search engines
Mozilla firefox browser allows addition of various search engines through the drop down available at the top. One can get these additional search engines added to their list, using 'manage search engines' and then clicking on 'get more search engines'. This takes to the page 'firefox add ons-search engines'. The various search engines listed can be added to the browser by just clcking on the respective icons. The sarch engines then appears in the drop down menu.
Alternatively, one can go to 'mozdev.org' site to add additional search engines to mozilla firefox browser.
Once the search engines are added, the specific information could be searched using any of these search engines.

What is the mechanism to promote developers to create a search engine. I would like one for userscripts.org.
If you use Windows, an easy way would be install the Chrome browser, where you can create a custom search engine yourself in a few seconds: http://www.chromeplugins.org/tips-tricks/custom-search-engines-in-google-chrome/
For userscripts.org the chrome code for the search engine would be http://userscripts.org/scripts/search?q=%s
