Migrating something else I just posted in the Health Informatics forum:
I just came across this document regarding the SHOE ontology, which stands for Simple HTML Ontology Extensions, and seems to be along the lines of the microformats effort. The underlying idea is that an ontology embedded in HTML would help bots gather more data from existing academic pages. This would certainly improve our ability to retrieve data from sites, but there are certainly issues in terms of implementation, such as training of IT staff across institutions, ontology refinement for health sciences research, implementation cost, and data processing (to show that there is actual value). Implementing such a standard on a small pilot would be a very nice way to see whether it could work and would add value.
Thoughts?
